After three-ish years of work, my first ever completed novel,
“Where Spritgales Fly”!
When the idea for this book first hit me, I wasn’t looking for it. I simply saw an illustration of a young boy standing peacefully with his dog in a wintery field, and 50% of the story popped into my head all at once.
That was the easy part. The other 50% took far more work than I’ve ever put into a writing project before, and ultimately became largely an exploration of some things I’ve personally wrangled with in the past.
I’m happy to say it grew me as a writer far more than I ever expected. At the end of the day, acting on one of the best pieces of writing advice I’ve heard, I wrote the book that I wanted to read, and more specifically that I wish my teenage self could have read.
This young adult fantasy story is my way of giving back to the literary world that’s given me so much.
Synopsis:
“Erelaith has been a humble yet peaceful territory linking east and west Monsoria for generations. Miles of pasture, open skies, solitude. And according to Aeryn, enough boredom to fill all of it. When an opportunity arose for him to finally chase whatever laid beyond the valley, he seized the chance without a doubt in his mind about the adventures that lay ahead.
Alongside friends new and old, Aeryn plunged into a world full of radically different people, technology, and ideologies, one he had to decide whether or not was truly everything he imagined. With threats looming on the horizon, he soon had to face the question of whether contentment is a place, or if it’s a choice.”
